WE ARE THE DREAM
MONTGOMERY, UNITED STATES
APRIL 2019 | 3453 PORTRAITS
41 days 16 community events
We are The Dream is a mosaic of humanity, of home, of hope on one of the most historic streets in America, Dexter Avenue. Thousands of local participants from all parts of the city came to share a desire to present a more accurate portrait of Montgomery from the “inside”—a community of individuals who are loving, intelligent, proud, passionate, creative, and evolving together. “We are The Dream” reminds us that the power to transform exists within each of us; that an engaged loving community is the way forward.

Created by world renowned French artist JR, The Inside Out Project is a platform that helps communities around the world to stand up for what they believe in and spark global change locally. Group Leaders create their Actions by displaying large-scale black and white portraits of members from their community in public spaces. Together, they create a work of public art!

Fun fact: Response to our community action was so strong, we ran out of wall space on the Court Square building. Our heartfelt thanks to our downtown neighbors, Alabama Power, New South Books, Valiant Cross School and more who generously offered their walls so that every participant who desired could join our loud & proud mosaic. Inside Out: We are the Dream literally permeated Montgomery's downtown. As Roy Wood Jr. said,
"NOW LOOK AT THIS COMMUNITY!"
