The most powerful stories in America are the ones that haven’t been told yet. The places mainstream philanthropy has overlooked hold its most concentrated sources of creative energy. At MAP360, we do not view "Artist" and "Entrepreneur" as separate categories. We believe the artist is the essential first-mover in any successful community-led development.
Sixty years ago, the 54-mile corridor between Selma and Montgomery changed America and altered the trajectory of American Democracy. It is where ordinary citizens ignighted federal transformation — and where the Voting Rights Act was won.
The South is where much of the American cultural canon originates. From the blues and jazz to the voices of Alice Walker and William Faulkner, the South has shaped the nation’s story. The gap between the cultural significance of this corridor and the resources directed to it is one of the most striking mismatches in American philanthropy:

The model MAP360 has developed since 2017 is not place-specific. It is place-responsive. The conditions that make it powerful in Montgomery, AL exist across a much wider landscape of American communities that have been overlooked, underestimated, and underserved by mainstream philanthropy.
