Grayson is an Alabama photographer based in Montgomery; they specialize in candid and documentary-style photos. While attending Auburn University at Montgomery, Grayson earned their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. During this time, they started a freelance photography & videography business, Celestial Lens LLC, as an event photographer for various live music events in Montgomery, Alabama. Through these events, they discovered their passion for connecting with local artists and using their skill with the camera as a way to spotlight the talent of others. During their time as an undergrad, Grayson was introduced to the work of LaToya Ruby Frazier, Deana Lawson, and Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Stills series. These photographers influenced them to create photos that focused on themes of gender roles, sexuality, and introspection. Today, Grayson and their partner Aiyana Hawkins have pivoted their business into a creative studio that specializes in visual storytelling for artists, brands, and organizations.Art has always been my gateway to introspection.
"My desire to understand myself in relation to the world around me has led me toward a documentary approach to photography. In my earlier work, this meant observing the quiet moments that reveal intimacy between people: the warm embrace between a father and child or the exchange of smiles around a family dinner. In my current work, I turn that same observational lens inward, documenting the ways I interact with and understand myself."
